My three Murakami book covers. There are still some minor things I need to fix, but here they are!

i needed 2 credits of phys ed for my major, and i took a really easy blow off class where you just walked laps and recorded your heart rate. easy stuff. i would bring books to read during class while we waited in the class before we went walking or while we were walking, and the teacher kinda innocently asked me what i was reading while we were all bullshitting before class, so i tried explaining kafka on the shore.

everyone looked at me like i was insane, except one cool chick who recommended me john dies at the end. good day.

If you were to turn the Kafka on the Shore one upside-down, it could still work as a cover for the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

What if oxygen is poisonous and it just takes 75-100 years to kill us?

My science teacher said he thinks that’s true actually

Yeah this is actually pretty much exactly what is going on. It’s why anti-oxidants are such a big deal. Bonus fact: oxygen oxidizes stuff in your cells or, in other words, it’s not toxic, just setting you on fire
very very slowly.

i don’t like this head canon

OH MY GOD

You know what consumes oxigen very, very fast?  Fire.  That’s why fire-eaters live such a long life, they eat the fire and in turn, the fire eats the oxigen inside themselves, preventing the oxidization from happening.

Everyone should swallow at least one ball of paper on fire every day.

Thanks so much to everyone who watched us on The Chris Gethard Show last week!!!

It was really fun and weird in a good way!

We didn’t get to meet Zach Galifianakis, because he left early and then we were too lazy to get up and hold up some kind of awkward homemade sign at the Today Show when he was on the next morning…

BUT we did meet some truly amazing characters from some sort of Italian American talkshow that was using the studio before us, and we learned a lot about public access television. Mostly that it is beautiful and we hope to be back very soon.

Here’s the video! (If you wanna watch our parts first, they’re at about 19:30 and 43:30, but you should watch the whole thing. Especially the hula hoop lady)

Guys, how much ass did Wojcik kick last week?

Every Ass.  All the asses.

THAT’S MY PURSE I DON’T KNOW YOU

The community engendered by the Listserve feels like a vestige from an earlier web–those decades of mailing lists, chain letters, and perpetually reinvented forms of community. It feels archaic to be greeted each day by the thoughts of a total stranger. If I ever win the lottery, I genuinely have no idea what I’d say. How often do you get a chance to speak to 20,000 strangers at once? Surprisingly, none of the emails I’ve received have harnessed the platform to advertise brands, wares, or projects. No one on Listserve has buzz-marketed; somehow, an unspoken agreement has been reached about this. It’s as though the lottery, like its Borgesian antecedent, were sacred.

-Claire Evans, “The Luck of the Listserve” (via thenewinquiry)

Counter-point:  The first email I got from the listserve was an advert for the Diva Cup.
